Tasty and Nutritious Fruit and Nut Oatmeal [Recipe]

Is there anything better for waking up with than a nice warm bowl of fruit and nut oatmeal? Imagine one of those freezing winter mornings where you know the best warmth is that which fills your belly.

That’s where I always imagine myself eating a warm bowl of fruit and nut oatmeal; gazing across the frost-covered grounds as the sun is about to rise.

If you are anything like me, you will have vast amounts of rolled oats in your food caches. Together with white rice and beans, rolled oats is one of the staple foods that I keep in plentiful supply.

They go great with just about anything, particularly biscuits, cakes, and other sweets. But where rolled oats have always won me over, is breakfast.

They don’t call it the most important meal of the day for nothing. Rolled oats have always been and will always be my perfect start-up food. There’s nothing better, especially on a cold winter’s morning.

And this recipe is one that will take the bowl of oatmeal to a new level of enjoyment. Get a load of this and I’m sure you will never turn back to your usual ordinary oatmeal.

Aside from the fact that oatmeal is filling and tasty, the health benefits of them are second to none. A small serving of this dish contains over a dozen important vitamins and minerals, is high in antioxidants, beta-glucan, lower cholesterol and improve blood sugar control.

Fruit and Nut Oatmeal

Course: Breakfast

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (or 128 g) rolled oats

  • 1/2 to 1 cup (or 120 to 240 mL) milk

  • 1 oz (or 25 g) scoop vanilla protein powder

  • 1 cup (or 128 g) dried fruit (apples, berries or raisins)

  • 2 tbsp (or 30 g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Directions

  • Refer to the package directions and cook your rolled oats.
  • Pour the milk. Mix in the protein powder. Stir until all the ingredients are completely combined.
  • Transfer to serving bowls and top with fruits and nuts.
  • Serve warm. Enjoy!
